Allen Auchenpaugh

Allen brings over 20 years of retail management experience and has worked on projects with SD Retail Consulting over the past 2 years. He has held store, field, corporate and special projects roles for companies such as Best Buy, Blockbuster, Wherehouse Entertainment and The Musicland Group. During the course of his industry experience, Allen has run increasingly larger stores and districts, ultimately serving as District Operations Manager for a Best Buy district with sales in excess of $500 million prior to moving into a corporate role in 2003.

Since then, Allen has developed and implemented a variety of store and corporate process improvement and training initiatives to improve efficiency; reduce expense; and improve customer experience; and has served as gatekeeper to manage store workload planning and communications.

Allen's experience and expertise is wide-ranging. Specific examples include:

  • Re-engineered store and headquarters activities and processes to reduce store workload after a series of cuts in store payroll for a 1300 unit, mall-based specialty retailer. Reduced, eliminated, or streamlined processes in marketing, receiving, promotional and permanent price changes, inventory management, clearance/markdown, and special orders. Implemented “gatekeeper” program for communication and capacity management. Results included store payroll savings of more than 10% and identification of significant opportunities in other areas.
  • Developed operating platform for new retail concepts including all retail and store operating processes and documentation, training, reporting, and loss prevention. Successfully implemented new platform with launch of several new retail concepts to deliver budgeted results.
  • Developed brand-versioned daily planner to manage store level planning to support corporate task objectives and planned calendar events for a multi-brand retail organization. Resulted in measurable improvements in store execution and accuracy levels and record-level performance.
  • Conducted analysis on retailer’s magazine program to create a check and balance system to ensure proper store credit of magazine shipments and returns. Designed and implemented a store specific return process of which reduce shrink and maximized return opportunities.
  • Conducted analysis on retailer’s corporate and store support printing requirements and document usage to reduce paper, printing and delivery expense. Led efforts in increasing the paperless environment in both corporate and field which, in turn, significantly reduced expense.
  • In District Management positions with Best Buy and Musicland, Allen was awarded the Achievers Top District Manager Award (2001), consistently met sales and margin expectations, and reduced district shrink by 40% over a three year period.
